The original Felicifia forum was created as a Soapblox forum in late 2006 to early 2007 by Seth Baum, with some assistance from David Pearce and others. In 2008, a newer phpBB Felicifia forum was created, and most of the discussion soon moved there. By 2009, the Old Felicifia forum was mainly only used by spammers, so the decision was made in 2010 to shut the site down.
In 2012, James Evans, with some assistance from Pablo Stafforini, put back online an archive of Old Felicifia, but that archive soon disappeared once again, presumably due to technical issues.
In 2018, I (Brian Tomasik) created the current website using an archive of the site that Seth Baum distributed in 2010. Both to reduce technical difficulty and for reasons of elegance, I stripped out almost all the formatting from the original forum. I did this by running the original forum posts through html2text to convert them to Markdown and then converting the Markdown back to HTML. I added reply indentation and updated hyperlinks by hand. I deliberately made this site as simple as possible, using just old-school static HTML and CSS, because in my opinion, further complexity is not needed and would tend to increase maintenance costs in the long run.
The site favicon, showing a sum of happiness, was drawn by Brian Tomasik on 2018 Dec 07 and is released into the public domain worldwide.
